I am a bit overwhelmed at the end of a long day thinking about this amazing child I have who just turned 5. He has overcome so many things and continues to impress and amaze me! In the last week he lost his first two teeth. He turned 5. I actually started the day crawling into bed with him and told him the story of the day he was born in New Jersey, then we got up and showed him the pictures I had that went along with the story (him in my tummy, then a new little baby). We celebrated in several ways today, at home, at school, and he even sang the birthday song to himself!
Today we watched him struggle for a second time to blow out his one candle (so this isn't something everyone is automatically good at, apparently) and he tuckered himself out playing with friends and we put a sleepy boy to bed, who prays for things like not getting hurt by our couch (long story) and is grateful for each and every friend who comes to play with him. We ended the day putting his second tooth under his pillow and he fell asleep telling me that he will be "angry and frustrated" when he loses all his teeth because he won't be able to eat anything, and then rambles on about a broken lamp (it made no sense, by this point he was delirious) as he is starting to lose consciousness and is drifting off to sleep.
He asks me to lay down with him almost every night, and I don't usually except for "special occasions", so tonight I watched this amazing child peacefully fall asleep whispering to me he had a fun birthday. When tucking him into bed sometimes we find him clutching a favorite toy our car, or literally sleeping on top of books. He does so many cute and wonderful things, it is impossible for me to remember them all. All I know is he has my heart wrapped around his tiny little sticky finger.
