I am trying to make the most of what little time I have these days, so I am attempting to update my blog from my iPhone while sitting at Quentin's swimming class. I am only a couple weeks away from the start of my 3rd pregnancy trimester and my remaining to-do list is a little overwhelming.
But, I hate to leave too much time unaccounted for, so I'll try and update for the last few months.
Quentin finished Kindergarten in May and had an outstanding year of learning and progress. It was his 3rd year at The Parish School and he will return for another in the fall. This coming school year is likely going to be his last year at that school, which is quite bitter sweet. It is unlikely we will ever have the close relationship with teachers, staff and other parents at any other school, and it will be an adjustment for all of us to transition to what is sure to be less nurturing environment. However, it is inevitable and necessary.
Quentin completed some academic and IQ testing for the public schools and, surprise, surprise, he's one smart cookie! The decision to go public or private for 2nd grade and on is coming fast, and that is going to be a difficult process. We must decide and apply by the end of this year.
Ironically, for me, choosing Quentin's next school seems to be an easier decision than deciding what to name our baby. This is just one more way it would have been easier if we were having another boy, but she won't be nameless forever. I'm sure we'll figure out something.
We started the summer with a 2 week trip to Denver to visit family. It was great and went by fast. I don't think we'll make it back there until Christmas, and we aren't likely to see anyone in-between except possibly my mother around September or October when the baby comes. I soaked up all I could of them - it was a great trip!
Our family visits aren't over for the summer though. We are visiting my dad and family in Nebraska at the end of July, after Quentin gets a week or two in Kansas with his grandparents and cousins. In the meantime, our days are scheduled with various summer camps and programs, swimming lessons and occupational therapy, all of which Quentin seems to love!
School starts early for us (earlier in private schools vs public schools) in the middle of August, so after we get back from Nebraska we will only have a few weeks before school starts. I hope I am more ready for the baby to come by then than I am now!!
Ryan went to Denver with us and is going to Nebraska with us too. He is playing basketball one night a week as well. Him and Quentin have recently bonded over common interests in a few select video games. It is pretty cute to see them gaming away on the couch every now and then.
My time is nearly up - at least it's something, right?
